The Fairacres-Picacho Volunteer Fire Department serves Dona Ana County Fire District 12. Providing fire protection and emergency medical services to this dynamic jurisdiction is challenging. Our scope of responsibility includes: Geography:

- 6,500 Residents
- Suburban Community: Mixed Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Agricultural
- Adjacent to Las Cruces (New Mexico’s second largest city)
- Rural: Mountains, Deserts, River Valley
- 40 miles north of the 2nd highest populated international border in the world (El Paso, Texas/Juarez,
Mexico, 2.2 million) Hazards:
- Transportation: Interstate-10 (20-miles), US-70 West, Las Cruces International Airport, Amtrak and Union Pacific Rail Lines, U.S. Border Patrol Inspection Station
- Rio Grande River: 6-miles of international waterway
- Spaceport Manufacturing and Support Facilities: rocket assembly, rocket racing, aerospace development
- Pipelines: Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (Gasoline, Diesel, Jet), El Paso Natural Gas (Natural Gas)
- Correctional Facilities: Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility (maximum
security)
